At Cabela's it was over $500.00 and this price was way better and it works amazing. I got this for my husband. He loves it.
I also intend to use them snowmobiling. When using this unit along with other Garmin Rino 530s it allowed us to hunt vast wilderness having great success. I think this is a great unit.
This unit has any and all features that other units have but the rino series has the ability to update your position to your friends if they have a similar unit. Any geocacher, hiker, outdoorsman or land surveyor would love this GPS unit.You can use it for road travel as well if you want to update the software to city streets but if that is your main purpose you may want to find something like a NUVI or Tom-Tom instead. I have owned and used a few other handheld GPS units and after owning the Rino I won't use anything else. This feature works great if you are hunting or hiking with a group of people and want to know exactly where they are in relationship to you.
The only drawback is that the GPS comes with a very minimal map the is almost usless. This GPS is my first, and I can't believe how intuitive and responsive it is. I thought that with the price, they could have at least put on your local area topos. It was great for locating areas in the dark that I would not have found without it. Awesome purchase if you ask me. Extremely easy to operate, even if you've never used one before.
Thanks to Amazon for being about $100 dollars cheaper, I could afford the 1/24000 maps that I wanted. I used the 530HCX on my sons elk hunting trip. The radio works without any problems. So you have to buy the Garmin Map ranging for $70-120.
no worries. the Garmin will lead you home. Good battery life (better than I expected). The Topo map is essential for hunting. Pretty much everything you need for hunting and fishing, especially if you're with other Garmin owners. Make sure you invest 3 to 4 solid hours to understand how to navigate all the features and capabilities, and you will be very happy with this device. The peer-to-peer location and communication is outstanding. Best part: you can wander around aimlessly focusing on the hunt.
